Job Opportunities

Metallurgical and Materials engineers create new materials and/or improve existing materials. Metallurgical and Materials engineers are involved in the production, development, processing, and testing of the materials used to create a diversity of products, from computer chips and televisionscreens to shape memory alloys and implants. They work with metals, ceramics, plastics, semiconductors, and combinations of these materials called composites to create new materials that meet certain mechanical, electrical, chemical, optical, thermal, magnetic, etc. requirements. They are also involved in selecting materials for new applications. As such Metallurgical and Materials Engineers work in many different areas and industries such as iron and steel works, non-ferrous metals (aluminum, copper, etc.) plants, foundries, rolling mills, heat treatment facilities, traditional and high-tech ceramic manufacturing companies, automotive, defense, aeronautical and aerospace, biomedical industries, material research and development centers, research and development and quality departments of production establishments, surveillance companies etc. Some of the industries and industrial sectors where Metallurgical and Materials Engineers work are listed below:
