Objective: To introduce the students of Materials Engineering to the liquid state shaping processes emphasizing on shape casting processes and related metallurgical issues
Content: Molding sands and sand casting; refractoriness test; mold making practice; CO2 molding, core and mold making with organic binders, heat curing binders, core oils and core resins, methyleneblue test. Production of cast irons. Inoculation, chill testing of cast iron, casting of nonferrous metals and alloys. Continuous casting and thin slab casting
