Objective: The objective of this course is to introduce students the fundamental concepts of engineering mechanics. At the end of this course, the students will have the ability to analyze the mechanical structures in static equilibrium under different loading conditions, and be able to make strength analysis of these structures.
Content: General principles of mechanics and vectors. Force vectors. Equilibrium of a particle. Equilibrium of rigid bodies. Analysis of trusses and frames. Internal forces. Shear and moment diagrams. Concepts of stress and strain. Axial loading, torsion, bending, transverse shear. Deflections with simple loading. Combined loadings, Mohr’s circle.
